Collaborations in the health sector
STRONG TOGETHER FOR CAMBODIA
Thanks to our holistic approach, we are actually quite self-sufficient on the Smiling Gecko Campus today. But of course there are also areas where it makes sense for us to work together with other organisations. For example, when it comes to the health of people on and around campus.
We maintain a particularly close connection with the Children Surgical Center (CSC) of Dr. Jim Gollogly, a British-American surgeon. The CSC, also an NPO, was initially mainly active in the treatment of landmine victims. In the meantime, the range of activities has been expanded. The center treats severe cases of SGC patients with a wide range of medical services – from general and plastic surgery to eye surgery, orthopedics and burn treatment. In return, we regularly support the CSC with medicines and medical consumables. We were able to donate three operating tables and also provided three tuk-tuks for patient transport. A barter where there are only winners.

OUR COLLABORATION WITH JAPAN HEART HOSPITAL
We also have excellent relationships with the Japan Heart Hospital, an NGO dedicated to providing medical care in developing countries and crisis areas. Located only about 30 kilometers from the Smiling Gecko Campus, we have many things taken care of here that exceed our own clinical competence or require inpatient treatment.
OTHER FULL PARTNERSHIPS
First of all, HOPE Cambodia should be mentioned here. The team comes to our school 2-3 times a year to treat students with ear, nose and throat problems. Any operations will then be performed by CSC. We are also in partnership with the Cambodia Word Family (CWF) in Phnom Penh and, last but not least, the great students at Edgewood College of the Henry Predolin School of Nursing in Madison, Wisconsin should be mentioned here. They also come to our school every year to give all children a basic health check. Worth its weight in gold when you consider the difficult conditions under which our children grow up in their families.
