Education for Cambodia

Cambodia is one of Asia’s poorest countries. People in rural areas live in extremely difficult conditions. Yet as an aid organisation, we firmly believe there is a way out of poverty for them too: education. And that is exactly what we provide, in many different forms.

School and Kindergarten

Our school and kindergarten are at the heart of the Smiling Gecko Campus. From the age of three, children learn skills that will make a lasting difference to their lives. We place great importance on teaching not only academic and technical subjects, but also creative disciplines such as music and the visual arts.

Vocational training programmes

More than 180 young Cambodians currently receive training in skills that meet labour market needs through our 17 vocational programmes. They learn from experienced local professionals and international volunteers with extensive leadership experience.

Farmhouse Resort

In terms of trainee numbers, our award-winning hotel resort is the backbone of our programmes. It offers training in five different professions. This matters, because tourism is undoubtedly one of the cornerstones of a better future for Cambodia.

The Gong Cultural Centre

Cambodia is at risk of losing its cultural roots. It is not too late, but the time has come to revive what once defined the country. At The Gong, with its auditorium, recording and podcast studios, and spaces for video production and conferences, old traditions live on and new ideas take shape.

Healthcare

Prevention first: led by paediatrician Dr Roel Bolt, who moved to the campus with his family, we provide growth monitoring, deworming, eye tests and vaccinations to help prevent illness. Each year, we deliver around 6,000 treatments for children on campus and people in the surrounding community.

Emergency aid programmes

During droughts, crop failures and crises such as the coronavirus pandemic, we provide rapid emergency aid with food from our own farms, medicines and drinking water.
