HUMANITARIAN AID STILL ESSENTIAL

The consequences of the corona pandemic are still omnipresent in Cambodia. In a country where there is practically no government support, people are still extremely dependent on the humanitarian aid of Smiling Gecko and other international NPOs. We make our contribution, which we must finance entirely from donations. That’s why we are so grateful for any form of support.

“A CONTAINER FULL OF MUSIC” ARRIVES AT SMILING GECKO

In November our “container full of music” filled with lots of pianos, drums, guitars, violins, trumpets and flutes started its journey to Cambodia. Now it has finally reached its destination. The children of our school enthusiastically received the instruments and now the instruments are given a second life, spending great joy to many Cambodian children.

«MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE»

Once again, the students at our Education Campus rehearsed a Christmas song as a way to convey their thank you to you. The rehearsals and recordings of the well-known Christmas song “Merry Christmas Everyone” by Shakin’ Stevens were a welcomed-change for the children from their everyday life impacted by the pandemic, school cancellations and often hunger.

The Covid pandemic and its effects have now lasted much longer than anyone had hoped for at the beginning of the crisis, and the situation in Cambodia has continued to deteriorate in 2021. At our school, it’s been a difficult year as well.

Corona Video Blog – 04.08.2021 – Hannes Schmid

The situation has not improved; quite the contrary. In order to alleviate the acute situation, Smiling Gecko has been providing emergency humanitarian aid since the beginning of the Corona crisis in March 2020, supporting more than 400 families with over 2,400 family members in the area. Our emergency team regularly distributes packages of food and medical supplies to those in need.

CORONA VIDEO BLOG – 06.22.2021 – HANNES SCHMID

As a result of health issues and the travel restrictions caused by the pandemic, Hannes Schmid was not able to travel to and stay in Cambodia for a long time after his last trip. Despite his compromised medical condition and age as well as the poor medical care facilities close to the SGC site, he has been back at the project site in Cambodia since mid-May to directly provide support to the local team.
